Pittsburgh Public Adjuster produces additional $91,000 on claim settlement for Pittsburgh North Hills homeowners….
In July of 2019, Dave and Judy came home to their Pittsburgh North Hills home from a wedding late on a Saturday night. When they walked into their home, they discovered water pouring out of their kitchen ceiling, damaging the cooktop stove and ovens. They immediately turned off the water and called their insurance company.
After speaking with the insurance company, they felt they were not really given any direction on what to do expect to find a restoration company who could dry the damaged home out.
The following week their insurance company sent an adjuster to asses the damage, she walked through the house taking pictures and measurement of the different areas. She spent about an hour gathering the information she needed. In the meantime Dave and Judy brought in a restoration company to try to dry out their home.
Over the next few weeks there was very little communication with the adjuster or the insurance company. Finally, they received a check in the mail for just over $32,000. Judy and Dave started the task of trying to find a contractor to do the work for that amount of money. As time went on, they started noticing other damage that that was not included in their estimate.
After a few contractors telling them that the amount of work far exceeds what they were paid, they called their insurance company. The adjuster told them that the contractor was overcharging that some of the items did not need to be replaced but could be repaired.
After a few weeks with no stove or oven and the insurance company unwilling to respond they knew they had to find help. They reached out to the Pittsburgh Public Adjuster Stephen Hnat. After meeting with Judy and Dave and doing a through inspection of their home, Mr. Hnat produced his own report and estimate for repair and sent it to the insurance company. In response the insurance company hired their own expert consultant to reinspect the home.
After Mr Mr Hnat meet with the insurance consult he prepared a new estimate for just under $50,000. Knowing that was not acceptable Mr Hnat continued to hold the insurance company accountable for all the damage that was caused.
Finally the insurance company sent out another expert consultant to meet with Mr. Hnat, afterwards Mr. Hnat followed up with calls and documentation which finally lead to a negotiated settlement of just over $124,000.00. Judy and Dave were able to properly repair all the damage in their home, using their contractor of choice.
